Easter Fun
The day before Easter we spent the afternoon doing a lot of fun activities! We dyed Easter eggs of course, and we tried a new way this year. I had seen on Pinterest where people use Kool-Aid instead of the traditional kits. All the reviews I had read said it was so much fun and easier because you didn't need the vinegar. Plus they said they smelled wonderful! Couldn't hurt to try, right? I bought several different packets and some you had to mix to get just the right color. The kids each had certain colors they did and they loved it! I thought maybe my sweet Pips would get impatient and want to rush, but it was the other way around. Monks expected the color to be instant, and I had to remind him to be patient. They really did enjoy it and didn't tire of it at all. It was then on to our birds nests! There were several different recipes online but I went with the crunchy noodles and marshmallows. All you did was melt the marshmallows with some butter, and then stir in the noodles. It was then time to make our nests! I sprayed the muffin tin and we rubbed some butter on our hands. I had to keep a close eye on Pippa so she wouldn't lick her hands. Sadly that child loves real butter. They really enjoyed getting the scoop and forming it into a nest. They did a great job too. I was so proud of them. We then set the pan in the fridge so they could get hard and set. We then started on our bunny cake. I had already baked the cake during their naps, so it would be cool and ready to go. We frosted it and I let Aikman do the bowtie by himself. Pippa made the pink for me. They really enjoyed being able to do it themselves. I love their little faces when they have done something on their own. Even if it was a little messy or not perfect, it looked great and I knew they were very proud of it. We then got our nests back out, and they put the robins eggs and a peep in each one. We had our nests, complete with a bird and eggs! They had so much fun and I love any reason to get to make something festive with them. I always tell Devin that even when they are in high school, they are going to still want to do these traditions with me. He just rolls his eyes lol but I'm going to stay positive!
