Yesterday, we took Aikman to watch the Abilene Prairie Dogs!
They are our baseball team. Tio and Tia kept Pips for us and we spent a super
duper fun evening with our big boy. The game started at 7:05 so after dropping
Pippa off we headed to a gas station for some small snacks. We got peanuts,
sunflower seeds, Starburst, gummy bugs and some beef jerky. He was super
excited going in. We bought our tickets and as we walked in, this lady asked to
talk to Monks. He immediately became very shy but she was asking if he wanted
to run the bases with the mascot, Grounder. She said she would run with him or
Devin could but he was being too shy. I hated to commit and then him get scared
last minute and not do it in front of everyone. I know Devin was so
disappointed lol but hey, maybe next time. Aikman was then approached by a man
who was with the booster club and he gave him an autographed picture of one of
the players. He said he had just signed it about 10 minutes ago. Woo hoo! A souvenir.
We got a drink and went to our seats. You have to climb three flights of stairs
to get up and it was in the low 100’s so at first I was thinking this was a
horrible idea lol but it ended up being perfect! Aikman was so excited as he
walked up the stairs. His little face just lit up when we got to the top and he
looked out onto the field. He really was in awe. He was pointing out
everything. They had lots of audience interaction after each inning. People
were picked to go down there and do something or compete for a prize. They also
play all kinds of music and little noises like glass shattering or that thing
where you yell charge and they had you stomp your feet to pump up the guys. You
could tell he got a little restless at times, but then they would start
something else and he would get back in it. Plus, he was able to move around on
the seats in front of us and next to us. We had a few rows to ourselves. I worried
too about the sun but it was never in our face. It very shaded and there was a
breeze. We ate hot dogs and nachos and snow cones and our snacks. He only had
to go to the bathroom three different times. He liked seeing the mascot. I
laughed so hard when we first saw it because Devin said look Monks, the
groundhog! I said babe, really? They are prairie dogs, not groundhogs. Lol. I
really enjoyed seeing Devin with him. This is only a tiny glimpse into the
amount of fun times we will have at sporting events. They were extremely cute
together and I couldn’t stop smiling watching them disappear down the stairs
together to go to the bathroom and coming back up with more snacks. We ended up
leaving before the 7th inning started. It was San Angelo 7, Abilene
1 when we left . It was already 9:15 too. Although they didn’t win, we still had
the best time. I am so glad we took him and he even thanked us in the parking
lot for it. Sweet boy. He will definitely be attending his first Cooper
football game this fall as well. Thanks Prairie Dogs for such a wonderful
experience!

Two things: glancing at this pic, it looks like I am smiling big. Nope, just enjoying my amazing nachos. Such a flattering pic right? Thanks Devin. Lol. Second, ever tried this beef jerky in a can? Scary. Lol. Monks loved it but Devin and I were like eww. |
